Hunters’ Gate

The Jägertor, or Hunters’ Gate, was built in 1733 in the course of the second extension to the city, when the Soldier-King Frederick William I had Potsdam converted into a garrison town. It formed part of the city wall, which was used not as a fortification but as a way of preventing desertion among soldiers and the smuggling of contraband.
