Dutch Quarter (Mittelstraße 8, Jan-Bouman-Haus)

Back to tour

Strictly speaking, the Dutch Quarter, is not a creation of Frederick II but was built during the reign of Frederick William I, his father. Still, two facts from the time of Frederick II must be noted here: Although Frederick II went to war in 1740 immediately after his ascent to the throne, it was he who had the Dutch Quarter completed. Also, one of Frederick's most important architects, Jan Bouman, had his major architectural debut by building the quarter.
