As early as the 17th century a wide boulevard, the "Prince-Elector Liberty" Boulevard, was constructed west of the palace. Under Frederick II it was already called Breite Straße; a number of impressive and prestigious buildings were erected here. Parallel to Breite Straße to the south was the Gärtnerstraße, the street which was named Priesterstraße after 1749. In 1990 it was given the name of Henning von Tresckow.
