The Potsdam city canal once turned from Yorkstraße, where it now has been partially reconstructed, into present-day Dortustraße. At this location, this side of the canal was lined with eight patrician palais by the architect Unger. At the time of Frederick II, his personal physician, Christian Andreas Cothenius, lived on the corner of Bäckerstraße and Dortustraße.
